Board keeps Weissberart Kramer as solicitor while weighing options after attorney departure

At the March 13 meeting Weissberart Kramer shareholders Megan Turnbull and Elizabeth Satler told the board Rebecca Heaton Hall is no longer with the firm and offered WBKas continuing solicitor. Turnbull said the firm’s obligation was to provide legal representation "at least until you tell us otherwise." Satler described her and other firm members' special-education and tax expertise and said WBK has access to files and continuity resources.

Board members discussed options: keep WBK in place for continuity while the district is mid-year on contract negotiations and other matters; hear from Heaton Hall as an individual; or issue an RFP for solicitor services. Several board members favored maintaining the status quo to avoid disruption, while others asked administration or the president to gather information and, if desired, to invite Heaton Hall to present.

Administrators confirmed WBK remains appointed and will continue work; the board asked for transparent follow-up and suggested the superintendent or president collect additional information for the full board.

What’s next: WBK will continue as solicitor unless the board decides otherwise; the board directed administration to gather information about potential alternatives and to bring that information back for the board’s consideration.
