The March 13 committee meeting opened with student recognitions and school program updates.
Justin Weiss, the middle school associate principal, introduced sixth-grader Bennett Anderson as March Student of the Month. In a brief presentation Bennett said being Student of the Month "means to me that things are going well in middle school" and credited Mrs. Bowski for support in class.
Adrien Day described the Patterns of Meaning art residency in partnership with artist Corey Bonnet: assemblies, in-class work connecting art and math concepts like symmetry, and a hands-on studio visit near downtown Pittsburgh where fifth graders participated in sand-brick carving and watched an aluminum cast poured. Day said the resulting casts will be returned and installed as a permanent display in Clayville and Joe Walker schools.
FFA students also presented. Ken Hughes, Ava Chumney and Abigail Clutter described SAE projects (raising chickens, dance instruction for children, and a workplace project at a restaurant), explained Keystone degree requirements, and introduced jacket recipients sponsored by local businesses.
What’s next: The board accepted the artist residency funded by an external arts partner and administrators said they will work with schools to place the permanent casts and manage follow-up field trips.
