Town flags 4.14-acre Montauk parcel for preservation under Community Preservation Plan

At the May 7 meeting the town presented a proposal to include approximately 4.14 acres at 134 2nd House Road, Montauk, in the Community Preservation Plan under Town Law §64-e. Town staff noted the parcel, long known as the Pathfinder Day Camp site, lies on Fort Pond and is bracketed by previously preserved parcels; recent marketing materials showed plans for a large private house, prompting preservation interest.

Staff recommended the board pass a resolution to pursue acquisition and to amend the town's SPF management and stewardship plan to include the site for preservation, open space, and recreational purposes. No members of the public who were present at that time registered formal opposition to the preservation notice.

The matter was informational at the May 7 meeting; the town will follow statutory notice requirements and may bring a resolution for acquisition in a future meeting.
