The Clarke County Board of Education voted to adopt a revision to policy ABB that clarifies the board’s governance role, approved a slate of contracts and personnel actions, and accepted the district’s FY25 financial audit with an unqualified opinion and no findings.
At the regular meeting the board approved ABB with amended language replacing the reference to 'operation' with wording emphasizing governance and the board’s role; the motion to adopt as amended was made by Dr. Patricia Yeager and seconded by Mark Evans and passed in a recorded voice vote (reported as 6–1).
The board also approved the contracts list for the upcoming school year and the personnel report by voice votes; meeting minutes and routine consent items were accepted as presented after the consent agenda discussion during the work session.
Finance staff reported that the FY25 financial statement audit returned an unqualified opinion and that the district’s SPLS review had no findings, which the district said sustains its low-risk status. The board approved the audit report.
Other items approved from consent included purchases for playground equipment and data-analytics services discussed earlier in the work session. Board members asked staff to confirm adaptive-playground accommodations and details for project costs; staff provided cost breakdowns for Gaines Elementary (playground $73,959; artificial turf $56,375) and Whit Davis (higher cost due to demolition and pour-in-place surfacing).
What happens next: ABB will be incorporated into the policy manual; staff will finalize contracts and personnel processing; facilities and purchase work will proceed per approved recommendations.
