The Christian County Commission on May 7 approved three zoning changes and finalized an order to vacate DeWitt Cave Road.
Votes at a glance: the commission approved the order to complete the DeWitt Cave Road vacation (motion and signature to follow), approved rezoning of a 6.03‑acre tract at 3809 Spring Hill Road from A1 to AR to allow future division into two parcels, and approved rezoning of a 20.4‑acre tract at 639 Summit Road from A1 to AR following a unanimous Planning & Zoning recommendation. The commission also approved a request to rezone a 2.01‑acre parcel at Selmore Road and State Highway EE from R1 to C2 for a proposed canvas-boat-cover business; that case generated the most discussion and passed by a recorded vote of 3–0 in the commission meeting record.
The Selmore Road hearing included multiple resident speakers and a representative of the Selmore Special Road District who raised concerns about sight distance on a curve, the safety of an additional entrance, and recurring flooding in a low area near Hartwood Log & Lumber. Planning staff and the applicant said engineering and coordination with MoDOT and the Selmore Special Road District would determine final access locations and that county stormwater rules prohibit producing additional off‑site runoff. A representative of Show Me Christian County spoke in favor and said the business could bring up to 20 employees.
Procedure and next steps: staff will work with the applicant, MoDOT and relevant road districts to finalize access and stormwater controls; commission staff said they will sign the DeWitt Cave Road order and handle follow‑up paperwork.
Listed actions: vacate DeWitt Cave Road (order approved), rezoning approvals for 3809 Spring Hill Road (A1→AR), 639 Summit Road (A1→AR), and Selmore Road parcel (R1→C2).
