The Twile County Planning Commission approved a conditional‑use permit April 1 for a detached accessory dwelling unit (CUP ADU 2025‑128) proposed by Ryan and Stacy Stevens to house aging relatives.
Planning staff said the property is zoned RR5 (rural residential, 5‑acre minimum), the applicant submitted required documentation, and applicable agencies reviewed the proposal. ‘‘The health department did do a feasibility study and it did pass,’’ staff said, noting the ADU will require final health department approval for septic capacity.
Commissioners asked whether the county supports ADUs in general; one commissioner made a lighthearted remark that the county was ‘‘all for it’’ before staff clarified technical site issues. No members of the public testified during the public hearing.
A commissioner moved to approve the CUP based on staff findings and conditions; the motion carried on roll call.
Next steps: the applicant must record required notices, meet conditions listed in staff table 15‑5‑3.3, and obtain any remaining health permits before building.
