The Glen County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously March 19 to approve AB-26-2, an abandonment petition covering two adjacent, unimproved alley segments. Engineering Director Jason Hartman said the parcels have been unused for years and that the abandonment would return the land to the tax digest while staff recommended retaining specific easements.
Hartman told the board Georgia Power requested an easement over the abandonment areas and that Glen County Public Works sought to preserve a drainage easement across both parcels. Hartman also said staff received no public comments during the statutory notice period.
The board opened the public hearing; no members of the public spoke in opposition or support. Commissioner Duncan moved to approve AB-26-2 with two conditions: (1) Glen County Public Works will retain drainage easements across the abandonment areas, and (2) Georgia Power will be granted easements over the areas. Commissioner Clark seconded; the motion passed by unanimous voice vote.
During discussion, a commissioner asked whether Joint Water and Sewer held easements; Hartman said they did not, and he described the deed-recording process and legal work that would follow approval. Commissioners requested additional aerial imagery (drone or Google Earth) to better visualize the right-of-way before final plat recording.
The county attorney will prepare deed and plat documents that reflect the approved conditions before the final recordation.
