Girls softball league president asks Millersburg board for a permanent field

James Low, who identified himself as president of the girls softball league, asked the Millersburg Area School District board to help secure a permanent field for youth softball after repeated flooding at the current site.

"We're just trying to find a permanent home for these girls," Low said, noting the league currently has about 76 participants this year and that parents and volunteers are willing to help build a backstop, fence and a concession shed. He asked the board to consider the Lankerville site or the pool field as possible long-term locations.

Board members asked practical questions about age ranges (Low said ages roughly 4–16), lighting needs and staged construction. Low said the league would not be requesting operating funds and would accept incremental work — for example building a playing surface and backstop first and adding a surrounding fence later.

The request drew no immediate formal action during the meeting; board members discussed practical constraints including underground utilities at the pool field, the need for engineering review for lighting and orientation, and the potential to phase work over multiple years. The matter remains under consideration; no vote or directive was recorded on the record at this meeting.
