Board approves pipeline easement near high school; BG1 will be sent to KDE for final approval

The Muhlenberg County Board of Education voted to begin the approval process for a pipeline easement to an energy company referred to in the meeting as AS/Atlas/Atmas Energy Corporation for land along Highway 181 north of the high school.

A district presenter told the board the easement request is part of ongoing work along that road and that any final signatures would follow KDE’s review and approval. “This is the approval of pipeline easement. If you notice on Highway 181 north behind the high school, they’ve been doing some work,” the presenter said, explaining the board would begin the process but not execute final documents until KDE completes its review.

The board also approved a BG1 form required for the project and directed staff to submit the form to KDE for approval. The presenter recommended board approval of both the easement process and the BG1; the meeting record shows the motions passed with no recorded opposition and includes a moment where the chair recorded “All nine” in favor on the easement item.

Next steps: staff will submit the BG1 and easement documents to KDE for final approval; the board will not sign final easement documents until KDE returns its approval and the item is brought back for signature.
