Chester-Upland superintendent reports recovery-plan updates, bus cameras and enrollment; board approves routine agenda items

During the superintendent's report, Dr. Lemons said the district posted updates to the amended recovery plan dashboard (noting changes on pages 3, 5 and 6) and urged stakeholders to review the PDF on the district website. He said the district had submitted the K-3 evidence-based reading curriculum survey ahead of the March 31 deadline and has revised cyber-charter residency verification forms in line with Act 47.

Dr. Lemons also announced a flash-reporting process to ensure 24-hour parent and employee notification for weapons incidents and verification of building-level procedures. He said building leaders are required to submit these incident reports.

For transportation safety, the superintendent said, "All CUSD school buses are now outfitted with our cameras as of Monday, March 23rd." He framed the step as part of broader safety initiatives intended to protect scholars.

The district reported approximately 3,160 students enrolled as of March 23 and directed families to online registration for the 2026-2027 school year. Officials promoted upcoming events including Chester's Got Talent, a prom dress and tuxedo giveaway organized with Keystone First Wellness Center, and a Title I spring family summit at STEM Academy on April 25.

During the meeting the board approved education action items A1 through A15, personnel items B1 through B3, and business items C1 through C17 as read into the record; no roll-call tallies were given on the public record excerpt.

Student leaders from STEM Academy and Chester High provided updates on honor societies, trips and student-led projects. The meeting closed with reminders about state testing and a standard adjournment.
