The Schiller Park SD 81 Board of Education paused regular business on March 18 to recognize student winners of the Scotty Award (Student Citizen of the Year) and to hear principals’ reports highlighting recent school events.
Principals presented Scotty Award recipients who will be honored at an awards ceremony at West Leyden High School: Sasha Perel Plenka from Kennedy School, Anastasia Herchyniak, and Lucas Lopez from Lincoln Middle School. Presenters described each student’s character, leadership and positive contributions; families were invited to join photos and attend the ceremony the following evening.
Principals also summarized spring conferences held March 11, preschool units on community helpers, and recent visits by emergency services personnel. The presenter thanked community partners and specifically recognized Fire Chief Hatcher’s visit to preschool classrooms and school resource officer Detective Orozco for engaging with students. The board also praised Washington School’s musical production and thanked Kathy Meganello for preparing keepsakes for community guests.
These recognitions and reports were presented as part of routine board business and celebrate student achievement and community engagement; no formal board action was taken on these items during the meeting.
