Avon board approves Jackie Obradovich as White Oak preschool coordinator

The Avon Community School Corp Board of School Trustees voted unanimously to appoint Jackie Obradovich as preschool coordinator for White Oak Early Learning Center, effective July 1, 2026.

Dr. Windham, a district staff member who presented the recommendation, said the district received 31 applications for the White Oak leadership opening and conducted first-round interviews with five candidates before bringing two finalists to a larger interview committee. "We had 31 applicants. We did first round interviews with five candidates and then brought the top two to an interview committee where they got to meet about 25 Avon teachers, White Oak teachers, support staff, administrators, and parents," Dr. Windham said.

The presentation noted that staff at White Oak asked for a leader with special-education experience because about 70% of the building's student population are students with disabilities. Dr. Windham told the board Obradovich has led a neighboring district's early childhood program since 2019, previously spent 18 years as a kindergarten teacher and holds degrees from Indiana State University, Ball State University and Butler University.

A board member moved to approve the appointment; the motion was seconded and the board approved it 5-0. The meeting record identifies the movers as Mike (motion) and Kim (second) and notes Mrs. Smith voted virtually.

After the vote, the trustees offered brief welcome remarks and thanked the selection committee and staff for the process that produced the finalist.

The board also approved the district's personnel report in the same meeting. That motion, recorded as moved by Josh and seconded by Kim, passed 5-0 with one member voting remotely (identified in the record as Jennifer).

The special meeting closed shortly after the personnel votes.
