Chamber and BDC leaders described a new community marketing experiment called “Block Quest,” a mobile scavenger hunt planned for Saturday, July 18 from roughly 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event will be free for participating businesses, which will be assigned clues and a 6‑digit code to distribute to participants who visit their storefronts.
Presenter described how the app-based scavenger hunt will work: participants or teams will receive a set of clues, visit participating businesses to retrieve a code and earn points on a leaderboard. Organizers said they hope the one-day event will introduce residents to more brick-and-mortar businesses and encourage repeat visits through discounts or coupons offered by participating merchants.
“We’re working with technology partners, marketing folks to help develop an app where community members will sign up either as individuals or as a team,” the presenter said, explaining the mechanics and the promotional goals. Jerry said sign-ups for businesses are free and organisers hoped to launch the app and website soon; more details were expected at a meeting the following Tuesday.
Organizers also said they will coordinate outreach with summer camps and the school district to attract families and kids, and indicated they will solicit participating-business perks (discounts or gift cards) to encourage return visits after the event.
Next steps: the Chamber and BDC will announce sign-up information when the app and site go live and follow up with a more detailed participation packet for businesses.
