During the mayor's report (speaker 2) at the May 6 meeting, the mayor presented a proclamation recognizing Lucha's Pizza's 40th anniversary and announced upcoming community events, including the Heart in the Home Handmade Market (May 17) and the Memorial Day parade (May 25).
The mayor also provided a status update on the city's zoning-code rewrite: staff indicated a final work session is scheduled for May 13 at City Hall and a public hearing on the new code is set for May 28. Based on the planning commission and council timeline the mayor said the deliberation and adoption process could extend into June and possibly July. The mayor said staff will provide the council with a redlined copy of the code and that Planning Director Pitchford is reviewing the draft.
The mayor additionally said he will travel to Columbus with a mayoral association to visit a data center and report back to council at the next meeting. He invited councilmembers to attend upcoming community lunches and encouraged participation in the Memorial Day parade.
What happens next: the public hearing on the zoning code is May 28; council will consider public testimony and the redline before deliberation and potential adoption in the following weeks.
