Consolidated zoning board elects Jeff Huff chair and adopts bylaws

Jeff Huff was elected chair of the newly consolidated zoning board on a voice vote Tuesday after Ken Klingensmith nominated him and Roger Spears seconded the nomination. Ken Klingensmith was elected vice chair.

The board then voted to adopt the consolidated zoning board bylaws as presented. Rod Richardson moved to adopt the bylaws and Fred Winger seconded; the roll call vote carried. Secretary Liz Henderson confirmed a quorum of eight members at the outset.

Planning Director Jay Leipzig opened the meeting and introduced Liz Henderson as the board secretary. Deputy Director Sean Pendley told members staff will provide monthly updates on Board of County Commissioners and Planning Commission actions and noted a consultant presentation on Module 2 (development standards such as lighting and signage) is scheduled for the Planning Commission on May 26.

Chair Huff disclosed a personal acquaintance with a person named Gerald and said he would abstain from any vote where that contact created a conflict. The board discussed continuity of representation on the Planning Commission after consolidation; staff said there will be two representatives drawn from former east and west zoning boards and that appointments will be confirmed as terms are reviewed.

The meeting closed with staff announcements about a busy June 3 agenda and a canceled July 1 meeting, and the board adjourned.
