The Tulare Board of Public Utilities approved the consent calendar, including item 6.1 and the pulled item 6.2, by voice vote after staff answered questions about a spike in roll‑off tonnage.
Committee member (speaker 2) asked for item 6.2 to be pulled and questioned “what was the reason for the big increase in that?” Solid-waste staff (speaker 6) replied: “The reason was that we've had several days in the last couple of months … in order to get these routes completed, they had to come to the yard. And then the next day, that trash was delivered by a roll off instead of by a [side] loader. So that roll off's got the tonnages for side loader work.” Staff said the pattern has been ongoing and that similar tonnage increases may appear again in the next month.
Motion to approve item 6.1 was made by Committee member (speaker 1) and seconded by Committee member (speaker 2); President (speaker 4) called the voice vote and declared the motion passed. After questions and explanation, the board moved and approved item 6.2 as well.
