Madison County Judge Executive Reagan Taylor proclaimed May 6, 2026, National Nurses Day at a ceremony in the Madison County Physical Courtroom, urging residents to honor nurses for their service to the community.
At the ceremony Taylor read a proclamation that recounted the role of Florence Nightingale in founding modern nursing and formally declared the date on behalf of the Madison County Fiscal Court. "Now, therefore, I, Reagan Taylor, Madison County judge executive, and the Madison County fiscal court do hereby proclaim 05/06/2026 as National Nurses Day," Taylor said during the reading.
The event brought nursing leaders and educators from local institutions. "The American Nurses Association just deemed the theme for this year as the power of nursing," said Mindy, who was invited by the host to speak. She added that "the Gallup poll actually says that nursing is the most trusted profession of all, and that's since 1999." Mindy closed by quoting Florence Nightingale: "My success relies in this, I never took or gave an excuse for anything."
Michael Deese of Blue Mind Health said the organization considers it "a privilege to work with every single one of you" and thanked nurses and partner institutions including Baptist Health Richmond and Berea Hospital for their role in Richmond-area care.
A representative for Bria said the organization has a "long standing commitment to the people of our community for over 120 years" and expressed pride after roughly 35 years in nursing service. A representative of the Eastern Kentucky University (EKU) School of Nursing thanked the court and called nursing "a rewarding career" that keeps patients and the community safe.
Ava Wright, identified as director of nursing at the Madison County Health Department, said nurses translate feelings into action that "bring results," emphasizing nurses' emotional and physical care responsibilities. Janie Winkler, district health coordinator for Madison County Schools, said school nurses are "there every day fighting the battle for our students" and praised her county's school nurses.
Taylor closed the ceremony by asking the public to reciprocate nurses' kindness with appreciation and a blessing. The proclamation urged citizens to honor nurses for their dedication and service to community health; no formal board action or vote followed the reading.
