The Minnesota House of Representatives opened its May 6, 2026, session with an invocation and proceeded through routine procedural business before recessing for party caucuses.
Pastor Dan Doreen of People of Hope ELCA in Rochester delivered the opening prayer, asking members to ‘‘listen’’ and to ground decisions in the lives of Minnesotans. The presiding chair then directed members to stand for the Pledge of Allegiance.
The chief clerk called the roll of members voting remotely and subsequently announced that a quorum was present. The clerk read the journal of the preceding day and, with no objection, the journal was approved as corrected by the chief clerk.
The House also received messages from the Senate announcing the passage of Senate File 3298 (relating to health occupations) and Senate File 4476 (relating to state government); those senate files were given first reading and referred to the committee on health finance and policy and the appropriate committee, respectively, per the clerk's announcements.
Late in the session the presiding officer recognized Representative Niska of Anoka, who said the Republican caucus would meet shortly. Representative Niska moved a recess to the call of the speaker; the motion was decided by voice vote, the chair declared the motion prevailed, and the House stood in recess.
The House's next procedural steps include the scheduled calendar items and the committee work announced earlier in the day.
