Gwendolyn Stattleman signed up to speak during public comment and told council she was addressing the planned zoning for the Buc-ee's property. She framed her remarks with county and state farm statistics before raising a local concern: the proposed plan includes three roundabouts that she said would remove the end of a longtime farmer’s driveway and put the farmer and motorists at increased risk.
“I’m not adverse to this building, but I am adverse to seeing that his driveway being removed and him becoming a sacrificial, as I call it, sacrificial lamb to Buc ee’s,” Stattleman said, requesting the council consider adjustments so the farmer does not lose safe access.
Council thanked her for the comment; there was no immediate response or council action recorded on the zoning item at that meeting. The zoning vote was noted as forthcoming by the speaker, and the council did not take a position during the public-comment period.
