City outlines summer construction schedule and warns of extended street closures

Mayor Steve Patterson said the city compiled a map of summer construction projects and warned motorists to expect street closures, detours, temporary lane restrictions and occasional flagging near work zones. "Stewart Street is gonna be closed for an extended period of time for the new theater construction," Patterson said, and he listed a City of Athens sewer project among the items on the map.

He also mentioned a City Fiber project, a roundabout project and a Columbus Road shared-use path. Several project references in the update did not include clear cost figures or finalized schedules; Patterson encouraged residents to consult the city's online project map for details and said city staff will provide timing and closure specifics.
