Commissioners received several installation updates May 7: an Arts Alley installation featuring Harlan Hubbard works, a riverfront mosaic repair after last year’s flood, and the first round of metal public-art signs.
The Arts Alliance representative said seven large metal frames are being fabricated for Arts Alley (between the taproom and Bella’s Pizza) and the first installation, "Along the River," will present Harlan Hubbard works reproduced on 4-by-6 vinyl panels. The presenter said frames have been test-installed for three months, a new fabricator was engaged, and the alliance plans an opening and reception when frames are ready.
Emily reported that the riverfront mosaic—installed around 2009 as a bicentennial work—suffered tile loss after being submerged in last April’s flood; artist Tiffany Black has patched missing tiles and repaired cracked top sections. Emily said she will ask the artist for preventive recommendations to prolong the piece against future water intrusion.
On signage, Emily displayed sample metal plaques produced by Timber's Custom Signs for the first round of ten public-art signs (title, artist, date). The plaques will be screwed into murals where practical and tall post-mounted signs will be concreted where needed.
Commissioners thanked the presenters; no formal votes were required for these informational updates.
