The Clark County Charter Review Commission voted unanimously May 6 to authorize the public outreach committee to spend up to $2,000 on town‑hall venues, printed materials and modest refreshments.
Commissioner Donnelly moved the motion to approve the additional outreach funds and Commissioner Hamlik seconded it. The debate focused on whether refreshments were an appropriate use of limited funds; Commissioner Landisburg argued for removing the $500 refreshment line as an unnecessary expense, while Vice Chair Haas suggested deferring refreshments for the first round until turnout was known. Secretary Garber asked staff to confirm that refreshments are permitted under county policy before spending them; Commissioner Holmgren said staff had indicated the expense was allowable.
Supporters of the request said the modest allocation would help secure affordable meeting spaces, produce handouts, and promote public participation in advance of ballot drafting. The chair noted the approved cap is inclusive of the $200 previously authorized and that—at the time of the vote—this leaves up to $8,000 potentially available for scrivener services pending separate action.
Michelle (clerk) called the roll. All commissioners present voted aye and the motion passed unanimously (15–0).
The outreach committee will proceed with planning and is expected to prioritize lower‑cost refreshments and nonperishable handouts. The committee agreed to monitor expenditures and adjust amounts if necessary.
