The Village of Oswego Board of Trustees on May 5 unanimously approved economic-incentive agreements to support two downtown redevelopment projects.
Terminator Fitness: Staff described Terminator Fitness as one of the first tenants in a larger redevelopment at 174 South Harrison, where more than $150,000 in interior work has already been invested. Staff said the requested assistance would help extend sanitary service to the right of way, install bathrooms and add a staircase to a lofted office. Bridal Nader, president of Terminator Fitness, told the board the stair will provide access to an additional ~500 square feet and that the business is "pushing for June 1" as an opening target.
5 South Madison (EJ Vision LLC / restaurant tenant): The board also approved an incentive for the reuse of a long-vacant industrial building at 5 South Madison to bring a restaurant tenant. Staff estimated necessary life-safety and infrastructure work at about $130,000 and recommended a $40,000 support amount to help pay for fire-suppression upgrades, grease-trap installation and upsizing utility lines. Trustees praised the adaptive reuse, describing it as the kind of project the downtown grant program is intended to support.
Both measures passed on roll-call votes. Trustees said the approvals align with the village’s strategy to convert underused industrial properties into walkable retail and restaurant destinations, and senior staff said projects will be subject to standard performance and construction requirements in the incentive agreements.
