The Committee on Administrative Finance and Law and Public Services held a session focused on the mayor’s proposed FY27 budgets and moved several items to the common council while tabling others for further review.
Chair opened the meeting, the clerk confirmed a quorum and the committee began vetting departmental requests. Alderman Santiago moved to refer item 37139-1 to the common council with a neutral recommendation; the motion was seconded by Alderman Barbosa and put on the floor for later action. Later in the evening members made additional motions to refer item 37140-1 and to table several capital and special‑revenue appropriation items until the committee resumes deliberations the following day. The committee recorded the motions as carried by voice vote and adjourned at about 7:49 p.m.
Committee members heard presentations from multiple departments as part of the referral process. Presenters and staff offered line‑by‑line explanations, explained why particular revenues or line items were reduced or consolidated, and flagged contingency and timing issues that the committee said required more time for review. Departments emphasized that some requested positions and service lines are contractual or tied to upcoming projects and that a number of figures reflect administration decisions intended to tighten overall spending while protecting core services.
Because several items involve capital appropriations, contingency balances and intergovernmental grant timing, aldermen said additional deliberation is needed before the committee issues final recommendations to the common council. The committee will reconvene tomorrow to consider each tabled item individually and return final recommendations to the full council.
