Danville council approves street closures for August community event

The Danville Town Council approved temporary street closures to host an August community event, allowing businesses and residents to participate in porch-artist and vendor activities.

A presenter described planned closures on North Washington Street (between West Lincoln and West Main), North Jefferson Street (between West Clinton and the alley behind Fastrack) and West Clinton Street (between North Jefferson and North Washington). The presenter said local businesses including Creation Cookie Cafe, Mayberry Cafe and K Stand support the closures and that organizers will hire off-duty officers and send letters to affected homeowners.

"They plan on hiring off duty officers as well as sending letters to all the homeowners that are gonna be affected by the street closures," the presenter said.

Chair called for the motion to approve the closure; the motion was seconded and the council voted unanimously to approve the request. The council recorded the vote as 5-0 in favor.

The closures were presented as part of a previously approved event and staff said the additional bookings are intended to increase community participation and business involvement.
