City community programs staff presented an overview of an emergency home repair grant at the North District neighborhood meeting, saying the program is funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program and is intended to help low‑ and moderate‑income homeowners address immediate hazards.
"This program is available to low- to moderate‑income homeowners in Provo City to be in emergency home repair," said the presenter (S11). Staff listed eligibility criteria including age 60 or older, recipients of Social Security disability, or active duty military status as qualifying categories for expedited consideration.
Staff described common eligible repairs: mechanical, electrical and plumbing work; structural fixes; roof repairs; tree removal when it is creating damage; and renovations tied to flood or fire repairs. The presenter said the grant is a one‑time benefit per household and that repairs must be deemed emergency work by a city inspector.
The presenter described the application process as available online with a paper option and encouraged residents who believe they qualify to contact the community programs office. Staff said the program is administered as part of the city’s CDBG allocation and that documentation of need and an inspection are required before funding is approved.
For residents seeking help, staff left contact details and offered to answer questions after the meeting.
