Council hears update on transfer-station negotiations after Republic Services purchase

City staff updated the council on recent developments affecting the regional transfer station and local hauling services after Republic Services purchased a new Ogden transfer station.

The mayor said city staff had been told by county and private partners that Republic Services — which has served Washington Terrace for decades — purchased the new Ogden transfer station, creating uncertainty about existing arrangements. City staff reported meeting with county officials and Republic Services representatives and said they are also meeting with other potential partners and conducting site visits to determine next steps.

Staff told the council that, for now, the city has a place to transfer garbage and is working with partners to ensure continuity of service while negotiations and planning continue. No final decision was reported; staff will continue discussions and keep the council apprised.

Councilmembers asked staff to monitor developments and report back, and thanked staff for ongoing coordination with county and private-sector contacts.
