Nick Littlejohn, speaking during public comment, told the Austin-Travis County Public Health Commission that the Dove Springs Public Health Clinic in ZIP code 78744 has multiple unresolved problems and public-safety risks. "There were needles and diapers found in the parking lot," Littlejohn said, and he said staff initially lacked a sharps container in the men's restroom until residents pushed for one. He also described an adjacent homeless encampment where, he said, "supposedly 3 armed gentlemen" were trying to victimize people at night and said police were investigating.
Littlejohn said several landscaping elements at the facility had failed: "there's 7 mature trees that are supposed to shade the preschool ... they've absolutely died" and about "30 to 45 bushes" intended as pollinator attractors were dead. He said contractor crews were spraying glyphosate, which he said conflicted with city code because it was killing wildflowers and mosses. He also reported theft of electric vehicle charging cables and said neighborhood residents had been without a free EV charger for months.
The resident urged the commission to pursue corrective action, saying the facility has "a lot of opportunity, but it's being absolutely missed" and offered to share a longer list of concerns after his allotted time. The chair thanked Littlejohn for the notes and said staff would follow up.
The comment concluded without a formal commission response recorded in the meeting transcript; the commission moved on to a scheduled presentation and later agenda items.
