Board updates fairgrounds plans, reappoints commissioners to park board and approves Saddle Club lease

A commissioner updated the board on prior executive-session negotiations for property adjacent to the fairgrounds, reporting that three of four owners rejected the county's purchase offer and that informal responses suggested owners would seek roughly 2.5 times the county's offer. The board said it will pause purchase efforts over the summer and return in the fall to solicit design and engineering RFPs to plan a longer-term revitalization of the fairgrounds.

Staff noted recent on-site repairs, including replacement of a crushed culvert and fixing a longstanding water-hydrant leak. Commissioners praised volunteers who operate and maintain fairgrounds facilities and said agreements with partner clubs were intended to document volunteer contributions.

The board reappointed the five sitting county commissioners to the Williams County Park Board for terms from 06/10/2026 to 06/09/2029, consistent with past practice. Commissioners also voted to authorize the chairman to sign a revised Saddle Club/Rodeo Club joint lease; staff had negotiated minor changes to the agreement and requested signature authority.

The actions were approved by unanimous roll-call votes; staff will proceed with lease finalization and the fall timeline for engineering and design planning should funding and schedules permit.
