Commission directs staff to begin comprehensive update of Title 15 (building and construction)

The board instructed county staff to begin a comprehensive update of Storey County Code Title 15, which covers building and construction regulations.

Joseph Starnes, who said he recently assumed the role of community development director, described goals to modernize and streamline requirements, align building and public‑works standards, clarify temporary living and tiny‑home regulations, and remove outdated provisions. "Our goal with this code update is to modernize and streamline our building and construction regulations," Starnes said, noting plans to form a committee including fire, public works, planning and community development staff.

Commissioners asked that resident suggestions and language submitted in the packet be considered as the team works through the updates. The board directed staff to proceed with evaluation and committee formation and approved the motion unanimously.
