Alachua County commissioners approved a set of fee schedule updates for county facilities and removed an out-of-county discounted season-pass option for the Kuskawala retreat center.
Why it matters: Commissioners said season passes and discounted memberships are a county subsidy paid for by local taxpayers and should be reserved for county residents. Commissioner Prizia moved to accept staff’s fee schedule edits with that exception, citing equity and subsidy concerns; staff agreed to strike the out-of-county membership options.
Assistant County Manager Gina Peebles told the board staff would standardize rental end-times and review staffing and overtime costs associated with late rentals; commissioners asked staff to ensure rental rates cover security and staffing for after-hours use.
The motion to accept the staff edits while removing out-of-county membership discounts for Kuskawala passed unanimously (4-0). Staff said they will follow up with any cost-recovery analyses and return with standardization proposals if needed.
What’s next: Staff will update fee schedules, remove the out-of-county season-pass options for Kuskawala and monitor rental revenue against staffing and security costs.
