City awards $313,725 curb-and-gutter contract to BNB General Contractors

The Nacogdoches City Council voted unanimously on May 20 to award a $313,725 contract to BNB General Contractors of Lufkin for the 2026 curb-and-valley-gutter project (CIP TR24-201). Public Works Director Kaye Soperman told the council the work covers 29 valley gutters and about 500 feet of curb-and-gutter replacement identified across several streets and that the work will precede paving projects funded by the city’s street bond program.

Soperman said four contractors submitted bids on April 21 and that the low bid from BNB beat staff estimates by a few thousand dollars; she also said city staff checked references and received positive recommendations. Council members asked whether local firms applied and Soperman explained local preference rules for projects under $100,000 and that higher-value projects must be awarded to the lowest responsible bidder per law.

A council member moved to approve the contract as outlined in the agenda item; the motion carried unanimously.
