District construction and project staff updated the commission on several capital projects, reporting strong progress at Hopewell and Parkview while the science‑wing project remains paused pending state/FEMA contracting.
A project presenter said Hopewell’s three‑phase project totals about $15.1 million and that phase 1 is roughly 85% complete and about six weeks ahead of schedule. “Phase 2 is currently out to bid…I'm hopeful by April we'll be able to close out phase 1, get a CO on phase 1, and roll directly into phase 2,” the presenter said.
Parkview Elementary is adding classrooms in two wings (four classrooms per wing); construction experienced weather delays but remains on budget and is on track to finish in June so classrooms are available for the fall term. The presenter said existing staff will fill most of the new rooms.
By contrast the science‑wing project is awaiting a contract between the state and FEMA (TEMA administration) before the district can expend federally allocated funds. The presenter said the money has moved to the state and a TEMA contract will define requirements for drawing down FEMA dollars; until that contract is in place the district is functionally on hold.
Commissioners pressed for timing and were told bid openings for the Bradley Central High School track RFQs were scheduled for April 7; the commission will review returned quotes. The district said scope for initial solicitation focused on correcting the track, expanding lanes to eight, improving drainage and the infield, and leaving room to add bleachers or a fieldhouse in later phases depending on bids and additional funding.
Next steps: staff will return with bid results and a May budget amendment will reconcile fund balances related to current project funding.
