The Roosevelt Fair School Board voted May 5 to appoint assistant superintendent Young as the district’s next superintendent after hearing remarks from the candidate and completing a roll-call vote.
Young told the board he grew up in Ruston and has served as a teacher, principal and assistant superintendent in Lincoln Parish. "My first goal is gonna be related to school and district performance," he said, adding that he also plans to prioritize campus safety and rebuilding trust with families.
In his remarks Young cited specific leadership experience, including raising a school’s letter grade from C to B during his tenure at Ruston Junior High, and said he completed training through the Louisiana Superintendents Academy. He described plans to use outreach and extracurricular inclusion—such as permitting homeschooled students to try out for teams—as one way to strengthen ties to families.
Chair (speaker 1) asked for the motion to appoint Young; the motion was made and seconded by Donna Doss. The board conducted a roll-call vote in which the listed members voted yes; Otha Anders was recorded absent. The motion carried.
The meeting record contains no additional procedural conditions; the board approved the appointment at this session and conducted no further public discussion of contract terms or start dates during the meeting.
