Event organizers and the Select Board reviewed fundraising and safety planning for Memorial Day and July Fourth events, including banner placements, parade/park logistics and fireworks staging.
The chair summarized the fundraising status for patriotic banners and community fundraising: pledged and paid totals place organizers at roughly $55,030 and the project budget was revised from $104,000 to $117,000. The Sargent Family Community Fund and other donors agreed to cover potential shortfalls, the chair said.
Organizers explained the need for an additional fireworks barge to allow normal use of the park and to enable the fire department to operate safely from shore. Staff estimated the added cost for the extra barge and associated staging at roughly $68,000. The chair outlined contingency plans if winds exceed safety thresholds: if shoots cannot go on the scheduled night because winds surpass 30 mph, dates would move to the next available night (backup nights and a contractual fallback to Sunday the fifth were discussed).
The board and organizers emphasized coordination with police, fire, ambulance and game wardens; Ali Kaiser (Chamber of Commerce) will provide a printed map of parking plans for public distribution. Organizers scheduled a June 16 meeting to have each operational “silo” present its staffing and parking plan so volunteers and services are coordinated.
What happens next: organizers will finalize logistics and run media outreach in the coming weeks; the board was informed of projected costs and contingency plans, with no formal budgeting vote recorded during the meeting.
