The Board moved and approved a resolution to create a health system stabilization reserve intended to support Lewis County Health System operations, a measure presented without extended debate and carried by the board.
During the special committee reports the hospital board recognized employees and announced that Marcy Teal, the system's longtime chief nursing officer, is retiring and that Emily Paulson will assume the CNO role on May 22. Hospital board representatives also said the board selected Jeff Hellanger to become the health system's chief executive officer effective Aug. 4, following a due‑diligence process.
The hospital report also noted philanthropic support: the Friends of Lewis County Hospice presented the health system with a $125,000 check this year, bringing total donations in support of home‑based hospice services to more than $1.2 million over nine years, the board said.
Board discussion on the stabilization reserve was brief; the resolution was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote. The hospital board representatives framed the reserve and leadership transition as steps to support continuity of clinical operations and to sustain home‑based hospice and other rural health services.
What happens next: The finance committee will incorporate the reserve into county fiscal planning and the hospital board will oversee the leadership transition and handover dates already announced.
