Dredging package, farmers market head to planning board; commission moves next meeting to May 28

Town staff updated the BART commission on April 28 about two items headed to the planning board and a proposed change to the commission’s meeting schedule.

A staff member said the dredging package (PBR) is ready and that shoreline scraping will be presented to the planning board on May 13; staff indicated coordination with public works will follow if the board grants approval. That same staff member said the farmers market application also will appear before the planning board on May 13 and, if approved, the market is expected to be located on Sarvis Far for the coming season.

Commissioners then discussed scheduling and agreed to move the next regular meeting to May 28 at 5:00 p.m. during a voice‑vote motion and second. The commission did not provide a roll-call vote in the transcript.

Late in the meeting members opened a broad discussion about a potential walking and bike path in town. Commissioners recalled prior conversations about corridors near Cemetery Hill, the airport and other stretches along Route 16. They noted constraints: sections of a proposed route would fall under state Department of Transportation jurisdiction, parking/access would need to be addressed, and grants may underwrite trail work. Staff suggested potential grant sources and encouraged further study before any formal proposal is drafted.

Next steps identified at the meeting: staff will present the dredging and farmers market packets to the planning board on May 13 and will confirm the meeting rescheduling details.
