The Beardstown City Council on May 21 approved a $558,167.37 payment for the USDA Sanitary Sewer Replacement Project and authorized the purchase of police body cameras costing $99,218.
The payment resolution (Payment Resolution No. 5) passed on a 7–0 roll-call vote after a motion by Alderperson Dawn Seward, seconded by Alderperson Eric Harbin. The resolution lists a payment breakdown of Hood Construction Group Midwest LLC for $547,226.60 and Benton & Associates, Inc. for $10,940.77.
Why it matters: the payment advances work on the city’s sanitary-sewer replacement project funded through USDA programs, and the body-camera purchase represents a near-term capital outlay for the Police Department.
Details: The council approved a quote from Motorola Solutions for body cameras and accessories for the Police Department, a motion made by Alderperson Chris Baer and seconded by Alderperson Eric Harbin; that purchase passed 7–0. The Motorola quote on the meeting record reads in full: “That a quote from Motorola Solutions in the amount of $99,218.00 for body cameras and accessories for the Police Department be approved.”
Other routine business: the council dispensed with reading and approved the May 7 minutes, and it filed the consent agenda (routine reports) by unanimous vote. Treasurers’ reports presented fund balances including General Fund $2,861,453.72 and Special Revenue Funds $3,352,513.03; April cash receipts and disbursements were reported as $1,667,994.67 and $1,608,348.28, respectively.
The meeting also recorded ambulance-service monthly statistics for Beardstown and Virginia and approved two park‑use requests for community events at Art Zeeck Park by voice vote. The council entered executive session on collective bargaining and later resumed and adjourned at 8:32 p.m.
