External auditors give Laredo an unmodified opinion; general fund balance reported

External auditors presented the independent audit for the City of Laredo at the May 4 council meeting, issuing an unmodified (clean) opinion on the city's financial statements. The auditors said they found no material weaknesses or significant deficiencies in internal controls and reported no findings for major federal and state programs.

The audit presentation included a reported general fund balance of $62,257,122 (as presented by the auditor). City finance leaders thanked staff for the clean audit and said the result reflects work across finance and budget teams.

Council praised the finance staff and acknowledged that the clean opinion provides a strong foundation for fiscal planning as the city navigates capital and operational priorities.
