City staff presented a resolution May 5 to reestablish the Affordable Housing Advisory Committee as required by the State of Florida when a jurisdiction expects to receive more than $350,000 annually in State Housing Initiative Partnership (SHIP) funds. The proposed resolution preserves a nine‑member format and enumerates membership categories consistent with state guidance.
Staff said the committee will review the 11 state-identified affordable‑housing incentive categories and prepare an annual report. The membership terms will be one year, and staff noted that at least six of the state‑identified categories must be represented on the committee. The resolution was followed by a separate agenda item to approve the proposed membership roster; staff said the roster includes representatives from construction, financing, and organizations that work with families who may need affordable housing.
There was one public commenter who urged broader strategic thinking about vacancy chains and market dynamics. Staff advised interested applicants may email housing@largo.com; the commission approved Resolution No. 2464 and the proposed membership by unanimous vote.
Next steps: the committee will convene and begin its review of incentive categories and prepare the annual recommendations required by state law.
