Council pre-meeting: consent items, museum contract funded by GOMESA, and short-term rental monitoring

At its May 5 pre-meeting, the Mobile City Council handled a slate of consent items and announcements, introducing procurement contracts, appointments and calls for public hearings.

The clerk read numerous consent resolutions and purchase orders: a $61,079 videography and photography agreement with Hunter Nichols for the National Maritime Museum of the Gulf (staff said the contract is new and funded by a GOMESA grant for the Delta exhibit); purchase orders for field lighting at Tremere Park, network hardware, city vehicles, recycling compactor repairs, and a one-year Granicus subscription for short-term rental monitoring and outreach ($36,330.65).

A council member asked whether the Hunter Nichols contract was a renewal and where funding would come from; staff clarified it is new and the GOMESA grant will cover the cost. On short-term rentals, a council member requested an update on enforcement and collection of owed taxes; staff agreed to provide an emailed update.

The clerk also listed several dates and locations for noise-ordinance waiver requests across the city and called public hearings on a rezoning petition and two certificate-of-necessity applications for ground-transportation firms. Committee and administrative meeting announcements were made, including a 1 p.m. administrative committee meeting to hear a Mobile Housing Authority update.

The pre-meeting included a procedural motion by the vice president to waive rules on starting with several resolution numbers; there were no objections. The meeting also moved to convene an executive session to discuss pending litigation after the city attorney made the request and the council approved it by roll call.
