Josephine County commissioners appoint three members to Budget Committee to restore staggered terms

At the April 23, 2026 weekly business session, the Josephine County Board of County Commissioners appointed three people to the county Budget Committee to correct earlier term assignments and restore required staggered terms.

Ruth Nelson, Finance Director, briefed the board on the appointment process and the need to align committee term lengths with statutory requirements for staggered terms. Nelson said properly staggered terms help ensure continuity and balanced oversight of the county budget.

Commissioner Gary Richardson moved to appoint Mark Kirby to a three-year term, Chris Collins to a two-year term and Dorothy Yetter to a one-year term on the Josephine County Budget Committee. Commissioner Ron Smith seconded the motion. A roll-call vote recorded Commissioner Richardson — yes; Commissioner Martin — yes; Commissioner Smith — yes. The motion carried 3-0.

Commissioners discussed the importance of recruiting members with varied experience and directed staff to improve tracking of term assignments going forward.
