Board approves multiple policy revisions, solicitor renewals and routine consent items

At its regular meeting the Souderton Area School District Board of School Directors approved multiple policy revisions, renewed district solicitor contracts and ratified a consent agenda covering minutes, finances, trips and personnel. Several policy votes were contested and passed on roll call by 5–4 margins.

Policy 006 (meetings) was adopted after discussion about agenda controls and draft minutes; the roll-call vote recorded five yes and four no votes. The board also approved revisions to Policy 006.2 (broadcasting board meetings), after members raised concerns that the update did not include provisions for remote public participation or longer video retention; that vote likewise passed 5–4. Revisions to Policy 004 (membership) advanced on second reading and passed on roll call 5–4 with requests for clearer definitions on vacancies.

The board approved the hiring of McNeese, Wallace and Newark as district solicitors for 2627. A board member asked why the district did not issue a request for proposals; despite the concern the solicitor renewals passed by a 7–2 roll-call vote.

Earlier in the meeting the board approved a broad consent agenda (items 8.2–8.29) by voice vote; that package included prior meeting minutes (Feb. and March 2026), financial statements, trip approvals, personnel actions, multiple second readings of special-education policies and budget items.

The meeting record shows members frequently noting a desire for more community input on procedures and for clearer alignment between agenda descriptions and policy attachments. No further public hearings on these policy adoptions were scheduled at the meeting.
