Waite Park city council approved the purchase and installation of a new phone system with Arvig to replace the city’s leased Zoom telephony service.
A staff member told the council the city will buy the phones outright rather than continue leasing, and that Arvig—already the city’s internet provider—will bring the lines into city hall at no charge because the city is an existing customer. “That cost is 13,555,” the staff member said, adding the change will save the city $644 per month and yield a roughly 21-month return on investment.
The presenter said the Zoom contract ends June 30 and the city expects part of the new phones to be installed at Public Works to serve employees there; phones can be moved and plugged into the network when staff return to city hall.
After brief discussion and a motion, council approved the purchase and contract unanimously.
