Council approves two volunteer police reserve appointments

Waite Park’s council approved the appointment of two volunteer police reserve officers after the police department described the reserve program and vetting process.

An agency official said the city currently has eight volunteer reserves and is aiming to maintain about a dozen to support traffic control and community events. The official said the two candidates before council had passed a limited background check sufficient to grant required CJIS access, and staff recommended appointment.

During the meeting a staff member provided the prospective appointees’ names, saying the appointments were for Jessica Coop and Martin Rugamer and that budget impact would be limited to base-level uniforms.

Council moved, seconded and approved the appointments. No opposition was recorded in the meeting transcript.
