James told the committee the district has been evaluating communication platforms and will recommend ParentSquare at an upcoming board meeting, highlighting features intended to reduce parental "app fatigue." "ParentSquare can do the things that ClassDojo is currently doing at our elementary schools, and in many ways with better functionality," James said.

Staff said ParentSquare can automatically sync rosters from the district's student information system (Synergy), provide automated translation into families' home languages and offer a digest feature that bundles non-urgent messages into a single delivery time to reduce notification overload. James said the platform allows parents to interact by SMS if they do not want to download an app, and principals can override digest settings for urgent messages.

Committee members expressed support and asked operational questions: how student-facing messages will be handled for middle and high school, how snow-day and emergency notifications will be distributed, and whether the website will remain the official source for emergency announcements. Staff said students (once of age) can use the app and that the district will likely continue to post emergent information widely, including the website.

Staff noted constructive feedback from a parent advisory committee and said they will bring a formal approval recommendation to the June agenda. Several members praised the committee work and flagged implementation priorities such as teacher training, translation verification and a clear transition plan for schools using entrenched tools such as ClassDojo.
