Chickasaw County sets May 18 public hearing for $10,000 Heritage Center budget amendment

The Chickasaw County Board of Supervisors on Monday set a public hearing for 9:10 a.m. on May 18 to consider budget amendment No. 4 for fiscal year 2025–26, a measure the board said is needed to cover unexpected repairs at the county Heritage Center.

Chair of the board said the amendment is roughly $10,000, split about $5,000 for mechanical work and $5,000 for plumbing or building repairs; the county will also cover a roughly $1,000 insurance deductible related to a cooler that froze over the winter. "We're looking at a $10,000 budget amendment," the Chair said, explaining the money is to address unanticipated maintenance and equipment costs.

The board voted to publish notice of the public hearing in the New Hampton Tribune on May 7 and in a national publication on May 8, and directed the county auditor to arrange the notices. The motion to set the hearing was made by Isaac and seconded by Travis and carried on roll call.

Why it matters: the Heritage Center is a county facility and the amendment would shift general‑services funds to cover repairs; public comment will be taken at the hearing before any budget change is adopted.

Next steps: the board will hold the advertised public hearing on May 18 at 9:10 a.m., after which it may take formal action to adopt the amendment or pursue alternatives. The board asked staff to provide documentation of incurred bills and the insurance claim for the deductible ahead of that hearing.
