Senate honors Western Colorado University on anniversary; resolution adopted unanimously

The Colorado Senate unanimously adopted Senate Resolution 008 on May 5 to recognize Western Colorado University’s anniversary and its contributions to the Western Slope. Senator Catlin read the resolution at length, highlighted the university’s history and programs and invited Western Colorado University President Brad Baca to the Senate chamber.

Senator Catlin described the institution’s founding in 1901 as the Colorado State Normal School and reviewed its evolution, academic programs, regional contributions and campus landmarks. The resolution commended students, faculty, staff and alumni and directed copies be sent to the university president, the governor and other stakeholders.

The resolution was adopted by voice vote; the clerk recorded 35 ayes, 0 no votes. Sponsors asked that the current roll call be added as cosponsors and the matter was handled without further amendment.

The adoption is ceremonial and does not create statute; it formalizes the chamber’s recognition and conveys copies to Western Colorado University leadership and state education entities.
