Huntersville board unanimously approves orders to abandon portions of North and West Church Street

The board considered two right-of-way abandonment orders tied to the Main Street project and Church Street realignment.

Staff explained the West Church Street abandonment involves roughly 3,600 square feet of previously acquired right-of-way that is no longer needed; the parcel will be recombined with an adjacent town-owned parcel and used as green space or held for future purposes.

The North Church Street abandonment stems from a realignment that shifts the roadway and reduces the previous Church/4th Street intersection; the portion before the board was roughly 13,000 square feet (item discussion referenced adopting an order to abandon and close a portion later recorded as approximately 1,300 square feet for the specific action at item 10a). At the meeting the motions to adopt the abandonment orders were made, seconded, and carried unanimously per the meeting record.

Both abandonments were adopted by unanimous voice vote as recorded in the meeting minutes; no public opposition was recorded in the hearing.

Next steps are recombination of the abandoned parcels with adjacent town parcels and implementation of the Main Street realignment per project plans.
