The Collierville Board of Mayor and Aldermen voted April 27 to award a $94,000 contract to Shelby Electric for a pilot installation of Miovision video traffic detection at two town intersections. Traffic engineer Miss Singh told the board the work will let staff "assess the system performance, data output and the feasibility of integrating Miovision into the town's current traffic signal network."
Miss Singh said the pilot sites are Poplar at Houston Levee and Houston Levee at the Helena Central/Kohl's entrance; the equipment would be installed, configured, tested and commissioned, and staff would be trained by the vendor. She said the town's existing Iteris Vantage Edge processors are nearing end of life, creating a need to evaluate replacement detection technology. "It will assess the system performance, data output and the feasibility of integrating Miovision into the town's current traffic signal network," she said.
Miss Singh reported three vendors requested bid packets and one bid was received: a lump-sum proposal from Shelby Electric for $94,000. The contract sets substantial completion within 60 days after equipment arrival and liquidated damages of $250 per day. After brief questions from aldermen about installation locations and whether boring would cross a railroad, the board approved the motion on a roll call vote with all members present voting yes.
The pilot is intended to produce more-accurate traffic counts and a web interface for live monitoring, and to test whether the detection equipment can support an adaptive signal corridor on Poplar. The board did not set a separate follow-up date; staff indicated performance and integration would be evaluated during commissioning and initial operation.
